The difference between “attenders” and “members” is commitment. Unlike membership in social organizations or retail establishments, becoming a member of a local church signifies   something deep, something fundamental to our spiritual lives. Membership makes possible a  community life that could never be experienced by a collection of “attendees.” Such a community is marked by promises of mutual care, willingness to resolve conflict rather than leave, and banding together to achieve the spiritual purpose both within and beyond the local fellowship. Membership identifies our family. 

At University we recognize the need for a formal membership to signify commitment to Christ and to this church.

We strongly encourage each person to participate in Open House. Some may like to do this before they become a member so that they can fully understand what it means to be a member at University. Others are ready to make a commitment and attend the class after placing membership. Either way is fine. Open House describes who we are, where we are going, and what it means to be a member at University--both benefits and responsibilities.

As a member at University, you commit yourself to our Family Covenant. This covenant is between you and the leadership at University. In this covenant, the leadership makes several promises to you as a member and you in turn make promises to this church.

One of the requirements of membership at University is to be baptized by immersion. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ but have never been baptized by immersion, we would love to study with you so that you can make the decision to be baptized into Christ. If you have been baptized by  immersion at another church and believe it was for the forgiveness of your sins, you do not need to be baptized again to become a member at University. If you would like to know more about baptism, please talk to one of our elders or ministers.
